2024 Impact Report

Dear Supporters,

Although 2025 is reminding us that we live in a society that manufactures scarcity for profit—we also know another way is possible because we are building it together.

At Restore Oakland, Inc., belonging is not just an idea; it’s a practice. In 2024, we launched two new membership programs that created a political home for cooperatives, entrepreneurs, system-impacted people, and care workers. Through building a healing-centered organizing container, we were able to win transformative policies and budget investments in the face of historic budget deficits, read more below.

In 2025, we’re leveraging our wins! We’re focused on building the power of our members to embody healing justice practices that increase our resilience in destabilizing times, while strengthening our organizing capacity to shape a future where equity and justice are accessible to all. This looks like following the money– by empowering each other to be more budget and policy literate, so systems-impacted people can play a key role in shaping public resources.

This work is only possible because of the powerful ecosystem we’ve built with partners at the REAL People’s Fund, the Care First Community Coalition, and you.

Support Our Work

We launched the REAL People’s Organizing Collective (RPOC) a membership of BIPOC small business owners and co-ops

We built people power to resist the Santa Rita Jail expansion and advance community care

✓ Secured $1.5M from the City of Oakland’s budget for community safety ambassadors✓ Launched the city’s first Film Initiative with co-op purchasing incentives.

This year's multi-year partnership with APEN supported Chinatown members in embodying restorative practices in Cantonese to process grief and advance community safety

We mobilized over 400 people through 4 direct actions to fight against the Santa Rita Jail expansion, while advocating for community based solutions

Our Circles and Trainings

We won policy and budget reinvestments to end the criminalization of mental illness in Alameda County

We built community through weekly circle practice and politicized healing

County Supervisors adopted all of our 58 Care First recommendations to invest in housing, wraparound services, and mental healthcare for system-impacted families.
