Community Safety
Mission
Based in Oakland’s Fruitvale District, Restore Oakland creates community-centered spaces where those harmed by racial inequities have opportunities to heal and create a shared vision for community safety and economic empowerment without relying on criminalization, punishment, extraction, and exclusion. We bring residents and organizations together to find humanity and healing in each other and cultivate participatory practices that advance freedom and belonging for all.

Movement Incubator
Our Work
Restore Oakland serves as a movement incubator where residents can come together to vision, experience and build strategies for solidarity and healing justice in their neighborhood.
Healing Circles & Resources
We convene regular community building circles and trainings for residents to learn from each other and build shared interdependence.
Healing Justice Campaigns
We co-authored the Care First, Jails Last resolution in Alameda County. Join the fight to reduce the number of people in Santa Rita jail with behavioral health needs, and fight for life-affirming solutions that keep our communities whole.
RestorativeEconomics
Restore Oakland is at the forefront of advancing this framework as a founding member of The REAL People’s Fund, a $10 million community-governed capital fund investing in the East Bay’s Black and Brown neighborhoods.
Collaborative Hub
CommunitySpaces

We are turning the tides on gentrification in the Bay Area, by creating permanent spaces where community members can gather to be their full selves and deepen relationships.

Peace Room
Our peace room is the first space in the nation dedicated to Healing Justice, a holistic alternative to the traumatizing punishment system.
We partner with community organizations to convene restorative justice conferences.

Community Conference Rooms
Our community conference rooms are a safe place for Oaklanders to dream, organize, and act together. We offer three public community conference rooms, on a sliding scale basis, equipped with audio visual technology, white boards, and free WiFi.
