A joint initiative between the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC United), Restore Oakland is a community advocacy and training center that will mobilize Bay Area community members to transform our economic and justice systems and make a safe and secure future possible for themselves and for their families.
Ella Baker Center and ROC United are working in partnership with Designing Justice + Designing Spaces, Community Works West, Causa Justa/Just Cause, Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth (RJOY), La Cocina, the Restaurant Opportunities Center of the Bay (ROC–The Bay) and many other local organizations.
Building Better Futures
We are establishing Restore Oakland—a community advocacy and training center where community members will dream, organize and act together for real community safety and self-determination.
Our vision is a new local economy and justice system where everyone belongs and thrives. Our approach is rooted in restorative economics—the model that all of our residents, including people who have been incarcerated, working people, immigrants and people of color, must shape and benefit from economic development in order for our communities to truly prosper.
Investing in Us
The lack of investment in our neighborhoods by government and business makes our unity as neighbors even more important.
Through Restore Oakland, community members will come together to fight for affordable housing, livable wages, and dignified working conditions and to win resources for community reinvestment and restorative justice, not more prisons and punishment.
By mobilizing our collective power to demand that local institutions and decision makers invest in our neighborhoods, we will strengthen our communities.
